This gorgeous shot was taken by Expedition 40 astronaut, Reid Wiseman, on board the International Space Station.

The new arrival was attempting to take a picture of Australia, however a large cloud formation obscured his view.

On Twitter he stated: “Trying to catch Perth at sunset, got these clouds instead. I’ll take it”

In the background, the clear curve of our home planet is noticeable. The blue glow above it is from our atmosphere.

Although he couldn’t capture a direct view of the sunset, the orange glow of the setting sun provides a beautiful tint on the swirling clouds.
