Saturn is a gigantic ball of rotating gas that is completely unlike Earth in many ways but one: its weather. Our home planet and Saturn both experience similar weather phenomenons, however the gas giant is also home to some of the most bizarre weather witnessed in our Solar System, such as this swirling storm, known as “the hexagon”, which was photographed by the NASA/ESA Cassini spacecraft. One of the Expedition 39 crew members aboard the International Space Station took this magnificent picture.

This cloud formation was actually a pre-winter storm heading for the coast of southwestern Australia.

On the left side of the picture, one of the station’s huge solar array panels is visible.

It was taken with a 14mm lens on a digital still camera.
